Tennis for Fitness, Flexibility and Strength

Tennis is not only a fun sport for all ages it is tremendously beneficial for staying in shape as well as developing flexibility and strength.  The tennis fitness benefits are felt during long rallies with a partner and short, intense bursts of activity while you're chasing a ball. The strength and flexibility come as you are using large muscle groups to run, serve, and return shots.  Bottom line, tennis is a sport where you're twisting, lunging and reaching all the time.  All these action help improve balance and stability as well as flexibility, strength and fitness.

On another note, smashing a tennis ball around the court can be a great destressor.  Nothing gets out frustrations and stress more than knocking a yellow ball around. There are the social aspects of tennis, which can also be a fitness benefit.  Because you need at least one partner to play, tennis can keep people active by making a commitment to another person.

We play because we love the game of tennis, but the other benefits are quite obvious in playing tennis.  Fitness, flexibility and strength are byproducts of the great game of tennis.
