Another for the Ages at Wimbledon
Just a year removed from what many called the greatest final in Wimbledon history Roger Federer and Andy Roddick proceeded to play another one for the ages as Federer survived in 5 sets winning the 5th 16-14. It was a Wimbledon record for games played at 77 with the match taking 4 hours 17 minutes to declare a winner.
For Roger Federer it marked a record 15th Grand Slam title for his career and many past stars were on hand to witness the achievement. Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras and Rod Laver were in attendance among others. It also capped another impressive achievement that saw Federerr take the French on clay and turn right around and win Wimbledon on grass.
Fans couldn't help but feel for Andy Roddick though as he probably played the best two matches of his career in wining the semifinals and falling just short in the final. Roddick did however serve notice that he would be a force to be reckoned with going forward.
Former tennis superstar Pete Sampras says most of his tennis trophies and other tennis memorabilia was stolen from a West Los Angeles public storage facility.
